How Much To Charge For Mixing and Mastering

The big question for sound engineers…How much should charge my clients for mixing and mastering their tracks? Hmmm… Tough question because you don’t want to charge too much but you don’t want to undersell your skill set. I have had trouble with this for years. Some people are friends (and that’s always hard) and most of your business is probably friends of friends. A lot of pricing in the music world is based project by project. How many tracks? How many versions of the track? Do they already have the song recorded? Do you need to record them?

The best thing you can do in this situation is SET YOUR PRICE and stay with it. Determine how your time is worth. At my day job (sales), I average to make around $25/30 per hour. So that’s what my time is worth at this point in time. But…my skill set is pretty high from having to be an engineer for over 10 years.…
