Recently I attended a concert featuring rappers Redman and Method Man at 1015 Folsom, a San Francisco. Before I get into detail, I want to say that this was one of the best concerts that I have ever attended. Normally when a larger act comes to a small venue, the performance is expected to be more intimate, which makes for a much better experience. This was the intended result……result achieved.
The opening acts included Sellassi, who did a pretty good job of holding the crowd’s attention, Equipto, who is a well-known artist in the bay area, and Pep Love who did a great job of bringing everyone in the audience back to a time when hip-hop was about lyrics.
On to the meat and potatoes, RedMan and Method Man started with a familiar hit “Y.O.U.” and quickly established that they were there to represent 1990’s Hip-Hop. After performing a few of their solo hits and also a couple of their biggest duo hits, they stopped the show to give love to the DJ. This may have been my favorite part of the show. The two DJ’s that were backing them up go head to head scratching. After which they resumed the show along with crowd surfing, creating a mosh pit and sharing in everyone’s green activities.
They closed out the show with “Da Rockwilder” and announced there would be a new album “The Blackout 3” along with a tour that would hit all major cities including San Francisco. Needless to say, I will be there to see them perform again. My hat go’s off to you RedMan and Method Man.
